the da vinci xi surgical system is an advanced tool for minimally invasive surgery. It acts as a natural extension of a surgeon’s eyes and hands, through a combination of cutting-edge robotics, 3D stereoscopic vision and intuitive human-interface controls.

bould design worked with designer scott waters and the Intuitive engineering team to evolve the da vinci xi surgical system industrial design. our engagement ranged across ui, form development, and ergonomics as well as detailed design for manufacturing of some components. the design needed to support an efficient set-up, execution, and breakdown for a wide range of surgical procedures. user cognition and repeatability were paramount concerns.
