The Bould Design Mantra: Function, Simplicity, Quality, Character
Ten years ago, when Bould Design was beginning to grow and deeply engaged with startups like Nest, GoPro, and Roku, Founder and Design Director Fred Bould started thinking about how to define and share the design values of the studio as the team grew.
Looking back at our body of work, he realized there was one early project that captured the essence of what I was trying to do - the SqueezeBox 3 from Slim Devices (later acquired by Logitech).
In analyzing the process, four principles emerged that funneled our design process towards success. These principles were function, simplicity, quality, and character. This became our studio’s mantra.
